Morgan Park/Washington Heights Neighborhood Feature #2: Weekend Happenings!
Chicago is getting jazzy this weekend and it all begins in our Neighborhood Feature of the Week, Morgan Park/Washington Heights!
The Beverly Arts Center, located at 2407 West 111th Street, will be hosting the Aruan Ortiz & Orbiting Quartet this Friday night. The pianist, award-winning composer, producer and educator from Cuba has been noted by BET Jazz as “the latest Cuban wunderkind to arrive in the United States”. Ortiz is an architect of music incorporating contemporary classical music with Afro-Cuban rhythms and improv. Tickets are $20 and available now – don’t miss this show!
If Friday night serves to be a tease for you, head down to Millennium Park and take in the 36th Annual Chicago Jazz Festival, running from August 28-31. Catch great acts such as Paulinho Garcia, Ari Brown Quintet, Corey Wilkes Quintet, Terence Blanchard and many more. There are shows all weekend long at venues including the Jay Pritzker Pavillion at Millennium Park and the Chicago Cultural Center. Grab your blanket, lawn chairs and a yummy picnic and enjoy some amazing jazz – for free – this weekend!
