Morgan Park/Washington Heights Neighborhood Feature #1: Chicago’s very own Little League Champions!

This week, our Neighborhood Feature is the Southside neighborhood of Morgan Park/Washington Park, home to the Jackie Robinson West (JRW), U.S. Little League champions!!!

The whole city of Chicago is so proud of this dynamic team of 11-to-12 year olds playing baseball with the best! The JRW team hails from Chicago’s Southside neighborhood, Washington Heights. Chicago has celebrated JRW’s successes with watch parties spanning from the Ray Kroc Center in the Pullman neighborhood to closing down State Street in front of the ABC7 studios. There was even a special fireworks show from Navy Pier on Sunday night to commemorate JRW’s U.S. Little League title. Upon the team’s arrival at Midway Airport on Monday, they were greeted with a water cannon salute from the fire department and police escort from Midway to Jackie Robinson Park.

The celebration doesn’t stops there! Mayor Rahm Emanuel has announced there will be a parade starting on the Southside and ending in Millennium Park on Wednesday. It will begin at 10am at the Jackie Robinson Park (10540 South Morgan Street) right after the 9am rally. The city has provided numerous locations along the parade route for fans to gather and celebrate the team, including U.S. Cellular Field. For more information to get your parade day schedule together, visit the City of Chicago website.

Congratulations JRW!
