Preparing for a Hot Summer Move | Moving Companies Hyde Park

Published by Webmaster

Movers Chicago

Summertime Chicago is a beautiful time of year, but temperatures can get well into the 90’s. While this is ideal for a pool or beach day, it’s not as ideal for moving day. If your scheduled moving day lands on a sweltering hot day, follow these tips to make sure the heat doesn’t get in your way of a successful residential or commercial move.

Stay Hydrated

This is probably the most important thing you can do to take care of yourself on moving day. If you get dehydrated, you may feel weak, dizzy, or have a bad headache. The last thing you want is to fall sick on such an important day, so drinking plenty of water even when you don’t feel thirsty is key. Beverages high in electrolytes but low in sugar are ideal.

Dress Light

No need to dress to impress on moving day – dress for the weather! Try to avoid wearing any synthetic fabrics such as polyester, because they don’t breathe as well as other fabrics and will keep the sweat on you. Moisture-wicking clothes such as athletic wear will keep the sweat off of you and make you feel as cool and comfortable as possible.

While you might want to wear sandals to deal with the hot weather, it’s encouraged that you wear close-toed shoes in the case that something falls.

Wear Plenty of Sunscreen

Dealing with a painful sunburn on or after moving day is not ideal. You may not be thinking about the sun rays when you’re busy with moving, but even if it’s cloudy, you can get a burn and put yourself at risk for skin complications. Whenever you’re spending time outside, you should be wearing sunscreen, and this includes if you’re just standing outside for short periods of time. Your skin will thank you!

Start Early in the Day

The UV and temperatures are typically highest midday to late afternoon, so if you know that your scheduled moving day is going to be a scorcher, it’s best to start early in the morning. That way, by the time the hottest time of the day rolls around, you’ll have made a head start in the moving process. The earlier you finish, the more time you have to start unpacking and relaxing in your new space!

Hire Experienced Chicago Movers

The best way to ensure you have a successful moving day, no matter what the weather, is to hire a moving team that will work hard for you.
