Summertime in Chicago is the time of year when the city is refreshed, recharged, and ready for activities. Whether you’re looking for tasty adventures, music venues and events, or fun for the whole family, Aaron Bros. Moving System, Inc has made a list of can’t miss events.

For the Foodie

  • Chicago Farmer’s Market–Purchase local, fresh fruits and vegetables once a week in many Chicago neighborhoods like Hyde Park, South Shore, Lincoln Park, and Printers Row.
  • Ribfest–Taste the best in BBQ at this Naperville competition during July 3-7.
  • “Taste of Chicago”–A celebrated city event running from July 10-14.
  • Enjoy live entertainment and some of the finest burgers Chicago has to offer at Roscoe Village’s “Burger Fest” running July 13-14
  • Fall in love with Chicago all over again by participating in a tour of the city focused around Chicago eats. Recommended tours include, “Chicago Food Planet Tour” which focuses on off-beat restaurants and eateries; “Tastebud’s Chocolate Tour” for the dessert and chocolate lover in the Gold Coast neighborhood; and “Taste Chicago Food Tour” with an emphasis on Chicago staple foods and restaurants in the Millennium Park/Chicago Loop area.
  • Don’t forget about the “Taste” of local neighborhoods; “Taste of Randolph Street”–June 14-16; “Taste of Lakeview”–July 6-7; and the “Taste of Lincoln Ave” July 27-28.

Music Enthusiast

  • Enjoy free music at Millenium Park May-August.
  • Chicago Blues Festival kicks off June 6-9 at Grant Park.
  • Grant Park also host it’s own “Grant Park Music Festival” at Jay Pritzker Pavilion featuring classical work beginning June 12-August 17.
  • Pitchfork Festival hosts the best finds in alternative, rock, and hip hop artists in Union Park July 19-21.
  • Lollapalooza may have sold out in record number this year, but still try to score tickets to this popular music venue in Grant Park August 2-4.

Fun for the Whole Family

  •  Although the weather may not call for it, Chicago Beaches open on May 27.
  • Visit Navy Pier for the “Cirque Shanghai: Dragon Thunder” show happening now until mid August.
  • Chicago Botanical Garden is offering a “Model Railroad Garden” and a “Butterflies and Blooms” exhibit sure to captivate everyone in the family.
  • Pack a picnic and enjoy “Movies at the Park,” showing at many local Chicago Park District parks around Chicago. This weekly event kicks off on June 13 at Ken-Well Park with a viewing of “Rise of the Guardians.” “Movies at the Park” runs from mid-June to September 14.
  • Make sure to get to North Ave Beach early and secure great seats for Chicago’s “Air and Water Show” happening August 17-18.
  • Don’t forget about free museum days: For the summer months, enjoy free days at the Field Museum–June 3-6; Adler Planetarium–June 4-12; Shedd Aquarium–Mondays and Tuesdays in June: and at the Chicago Children’s Museum (at Navy Pier)–every 1st Sunday of every month.
