Eco-Friendly Moving Tips From the Best Movers in Chicago

Going green is a big focus in today’s society, as taking care of our ecosystem and environment are top priorities. If you have a move coming up, it’s a good idea to learn how to make your move extra eco-friendly, as moving can use up a lot of materials and resources.

Practice Responsible Recycling

Going through your belongings before moving is always a good idea to ensure that you don’t waste time and effort packing belongings you don’t want. Instead of just throwing out items, consider donating, gifting, recycling, or selling them. Something that you no longer want could be ideal for someone else, and this eliminates the need for throwing things out.

Ask Around for Moving Supplies

Re-using supplies is a great way to practice being environmentally friendly. Ask around between friends, family, neighbors, or even online neighborhood groups if anyone has extra moving materials. This way, you’re not buying and throwing out new materials, and their materials aren’t going to waste. While it’s a very simple action, it can make a huge impact.

Instead of using disposal materials, use cloths, blankets, and towels that can then be used in your house. Consider using reusable boxes and bins that can be used inside your home instead of cardboard boxes that will end up in a landfill.

Instead of buying materials that will be thrown away, using what you already have is not only more cost-efficient for you, but creates less waste, making your actions more sustainable.

Cut Down Driving Trips

While we may forget, driving is actually pretty bad for the environment because of the fuel that’s used. To account for that, try to make as few trips as possible. While you might be driving back and forth between your new and old home, running errands, and getting things together, try to do so with as few trips as possible. Not only will it save you fuel and make you more environmentally conscious, but will also help save time and money as well!
