Tips to Manage Moving During the Holidays

Published by Derrick Spencer

Sometimes, moves can happen at the seemingly most inconvenient times; and if you’re moving during the holiday season, it can be extra stressful. If you’re preoccupied with buying gifts for your family and friends, planning get-togethers, decorating, or travelling, it may seem impossible to have time to get ready for your move. However, with the right moving company and by following these tips, it’ certainly possible.

Work Backwards

The last thing you want is to run out of time for packing and checking everything off your to-do list. Working backwards to create a timeline can help you block out how long you need for different tasks. If you know when you’ll be moving by and know when you’ll be extra busy due to the holiday season, work backwards to find out when you should start with the moving preparations. Along with that, try not to procrastinate!

Plan the Holidays at Someone Else’ Home

This might not be the best year for you to offer up your home for holiday dinners, parties, or any sort of festivities. Trying to pack up your home while simultaneously decorating and cleaning and preparing for guests will put you through extra stress and hard work. If you do want to host something at your house, try keeping it small. You can consider doing a potluck- or BYOB- style gathering.

Take Advantage of Sales

This time of year is known for many great things, one of which is all of the sales happening! With Black Friday deals and Christmas specials galore, it shouldn’t be hard to find a good deal. Make a list of all the packing supplies you may need, new furniture you want to get, or any other purchases you’re planning to make so you can keep an eye out for sales.

Clean Out and Donate Items as You Pack

Decluttering your life will only make packing, moving, and unpacking easier. The holidays are a great time to donate gently used items and spread kindness to others. Around this time of year, items such as warm clothing, warm shoes, books, and children’ toys are extra appreciated.
