The Right Self-Storage Size for Your Home or Business

Published by Webmaster

It can be confusing to know how much space you really need when it comes to renting self-storage units. And although we highly recommend visiting one of our self-storage facilities in person to view a space before moving in, here is a quick guide on the sizes of our units and what they can typically fit.

The Right Self-Storage Size for Your Home or Business

5×5 (or 25 Square Feet)

5×5 units are the equivalent to a 1/2 bathroom or a small hall closet. They are ideal for small personal items including: student belongings, seasonal items, personal records, small furniture such as chairs and/or a dresser. These units can also hold about 30-36 standard file boxes.

Business Use–Ideal for office files, books, and/or office chairs.

5×10 (or 50 Square Feet)

5×10 units are the equivalent to a large walk-in closet. They are ideal for some household furniture such as a mattress set, dresser, couch and chair, TV, and small personal items. These units can also accommodate outdoor furniture such as patio sets, lawnmowers, motorcycles, and 48-84 standard file boxes.

Business Use–Ideal for a one office room including desk, bookcases, filing cabinets and large storage boxes.

10×10 (or 100 Square Feet)

10×10 units are the equivalent to the average bedroom. They are ideal for a 1-2 bedroom apartment and the typical furniture one would have. This size can still fit small personal items and 108-168 standard file boxes. Appliances like a refrigerator, washer and/or dryer, may or may not fit, so please check with each individual facility.

Business Use–Ideal for 1 entire office including sets of desks and chairs, computers, and boxes.

10×15 (or 150 Square Feet)

10×15 units are the equivalent to a large bedroom. They are ideal for a 2-3 bedroom house or apartment and the typical furniture one would have. This size can also accommodate large-size TVs, small personal items, miscellaneous items, 156-294 standard file boxes, and some appliances.

Business Use–Ideal for 2-3 offices including sets of desks and chairs, computers, and boxes. Also, gardening and landscape equipment and some medical equipment.

10×20 (or 200 Square Feet)

10×20 units are the equivalent to a small one car garage. They are ideal for up to a 4 bedroom house or apartment and the typical furniture one would have. This size can also fit most appliances, personal items and many miscellaneous boxes, roughly between 204-378 standard file boxes.

Business Use–Ideal for 4-5 offices including sets of desks and chairs, computers, filing cabinets, and bookcases. Also, medical equipment and restaurant storage.
